147 Handbells, 110 Chimes Sponsored by forzandoArts

Sound Curiosity welcomes community contributors for its educational programs.
Students will be able to learn both music and STEM topics with these handbells and handchimes.

Independent music publisher forzandoArts will sponsor the instruments to be used in Sound Curiosity music and STEM education programs.

"forzandoArts will be providing enough handbells, handchimes, and performance equipment to support concurrent programs in five locations simultaneously," says Daniel M. Reck, director of Sound Curiosity.

Sound Curiosity students will be able to use forzandoArts' extensive collection of handbells, handchimes, and other performance equipment.

"All together, we have three sets of handbells and two sets of handchimes, for a total of 257 notes," says Reck. There are three- , four-, and five-octave ranges of handbells, and three- and six-octave ranges of chimes. forzandoArts is also providing dozens of mallets and foam pads necessary for handbell performance.

"The largest handchime is C2, which is just over five-and-a-half feet long," says Reck. "It's big enough you can see it vibrating when you play it."

forzandoArts offers a wide selection of handbell sheet music on its website at forzando.art, including some music composed by Reck who serves as forzandoArts' creative director. Beyond music, forzandoArts provides digital media and photography services for a number of non-profit music organizations including the Detroit Handbell Ensemble and the Northwestern University Bands.
